Geranium Essential Oil is derived through steam distillation from the leaves and stalks of the Pelargonium odoratissimum plant, also known as apple geranium. It has a distinctive floral aroma with hints of mint and apple. This oil is known for its ability to balance and uplift both the mind and body, helping to alleviate various ailments. It is beneficial for balancing oily and dry skin and can also ease stress and anxiety. Geranium oil is believed to affect the adrenal cortex, promoting balance in the hormone system. It has been used to treat acne, bruises, burns, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, hemorrhoids, ringworm, ulcers, breast engorgement, edema, poor circulation, sore throat, tonsillitis, PMS, menopausal issues, and neuralgia. Its strong scent is also known to repel mosquitoes, and adding a few drops to shampoo may help eliminate head lice. Geraniums were traditionally believed to ward off spirits, just as they kept mosquitoes away, which is why they were often planted around homes. Native to regions like South Africa, Reunion, Madagascar, Egypt, and Morocco, geraniums were introduced to Europe in the 17th century. While there are approximately 700 varieties of the plant, only about 10 produce essential oil in usable quantities, with garden varieties typically yielding too little for extraction.
